Literature Text

A mountainous region is bare white, except for a few scattered glimmers of light. When things zoom in on one of these points, a traveler can be seen walking in the snow. He enters a place with a few crude structures that shelter him from intensive wind-blown snowdrifts. When they pass, he continues on. The traveler sees no one else, so he assumes the place is the remnants of a village. Walking onward, the traveler notices a few more signs of civilization. He encounters a bearded fellow and asks him if a town is nearby.
'This ain't no town,' replies the bearded fellow, 'this is a city; in fact it is the city where you grew up.'
As the two continue across the tundra, the traveler sees that the bearded fellow has spoken truly, as the area of civilization is indeed a city.
The bearded fellow says, 'Meet at the first house west of the fruit market at 3:00 tomorrow afternoon,' and parts ways with the traveler. Something about the manner of the bearded man's words motivates the traveler to decide to do as he says. Recognizing no one in the city, the traveler stays the night at a local inn.
At the set time, the traveler enters the house, the inside of which is bathed in a dim orange light. He waits a few minutes and wonders whether to leave, when a figure comes up from behind him and pins him with his back against the wall. His eyes widen as he looks into the eyes of his childhood friend. 'Kaisa!'
The girl allows her childhood friend to hug her. 'It's been years,' he begins.
Kaisa interrupts by pushing him back against the wall, her forehead pressed against his. 'Why didn't you ever come back?'
'What are you saying? You left after third grade.'
'I visited in seventh grade and you weren't there.'
'I left for one year between sixth and eighth grade.'
Kaisa vanishes and a stern-faced man stands in her place. 'You may want to leave now.'
The traveler looks at him quizzically, and the stern-faced man gestures urgently to the window, where crowds of people are waiting impatiently; some can be seen pressing in through the door. The traveler follows him out an alternate exist.
The traveler shakes his head as he trudges along a street of the city. 'Some things are too good to be true.'
Although he never remembered closing them, the traveler opens his eyes to see Kaisa looking down at him, the dawn breaking across her face as she watches him awaken. 'What happened?'
'We found you outside; you had collapsed in a blizzard.'
'Kaisa,' says the man, sitting up without any difficulty, 'my travels are finished now.'
'Did you find what you were searching for?'
He looks into Kaisa's eyes. 'Yes.'

Soli Deo Gloria
With all the pleasure i've drained from this site, the least i can do is to submit a story or two. These are very short; i wrote them down after waking from dreams. These aren't my best stories, as i'm too embarrassed to share my better stories here. The inspiration for 'Glimmer' came from a glimmirth, my term for a good dream.
